Our Story
Christmas 2022.
My then fiancé (now my husband) and I were sitting together pulling Christmas crackers when I thought and said.
"These are just... a little boring." The same paper hat. The same tiny joke. The same forgettable plastic gift. I remember thinking there had to be a better way.
I wanted something intentional. Something meaningful. Something that families would genuinely enjoy and remember.
At first, I thought about creating Afrobeats-themed Christmas crackers, but the more I thought about it, the more I realised Africa could never be represented by just one thing.
Africa is music. Africa is history. Africa is wildlife. Africa is food. Africa is literature. Africa is fashion. Africa is languages. Africa is 54 incredibly diverse countries, each with their own stories to tell. That became the vision behind Afrackers.
My husband then suggested including a charades hat inside every cracker, and I instantly loved the idea. Instead of lasting just a few seconds, the crackers would become part of the entertainment around the table.
That Christmas conversation became the beginning of Afrackers.
Our Journey
Christmas 2022
The first prototype contained twelve crackers in one box with just one trinket inside each.
Looking back, it was bulky and far from perfect—but every great idea has to start somewhere.

December 2023
I shared the idea with a wonderful group of women from one of my village banking groups and asked for honest feedback.
Their ideas helped shape the product into something stronger, reminding me that the best businesses are often built alongside the community.

May 2024
Our first professionally manufactured sample finally arrived. Six crackers. Different trinkets. A real product I could hold in my hands. The packaging still wasn't where I wanted it to be, and the logo was one I'd created myself in Canva. I knew it wasn't perfect. But I also knew that if I'd spent months obsessing over a logo, I might never have launched at all. Progress was more important than perfection. Ironically, while the packaging still needed work, I had already made the contents much more exciting by creating twelve different combinations of slips and trinkets, making every cracker feel unique.

November 2024
I experimented with marketing by hiring a presenter and videographer to film street interviews. The videos performed well and received hundreds, then thousands, of views.
But something still wasn't connecting.
People were watching. They just didn't fully understand what Afrackers actually was.
A Walk That Changed Everything
After celebrating Zambian Independence Day in Birmingham, I had arranged to meet my old colleague, now close friend, Sara, in Hinckley.
I almost didn't go.
I'd been out celebrating the night before and there was another event I could have attended, but something told me to keep our plans. During a walk together, I told her all about Afrackers. Sara is one of those friends I genuinely believe God placed in my life for a reason. She kindly gave my social media pages a mini audit and said something that completely changed my perspective. "I still don't really understand what your product is." She encouraged me to create a simple video showing exactly what Afrackers was. Looking back, that conversation changed everything.
13 December 2024
I finally posted that video on TikTok. Nothing fancy. Just me showing people exactly what Afrackers was. The result? Over 40,000 organic views. Our website suddenly began receiving orders. There was just one problem... We had no stock. Only two samples. People still wanted them. So I carefully packed them up and sent them. That was the moment I realised people weren't just buying the product. They were buying into the journey. Throughout 2025 I committed to creating founder-led content, building trust, creating social proof and taking people behind the scenes as Afrackers continued to grow.
2025
This was one of the busiest years of my life. Alongside building Afrackers, I was planning my traditional Kitchen Party, our wedding and preparing for married life.
Looking back, it's only by God's grace that I managed everything that year. The branding evolved. The packaging improved.
We introduced both the Original and Pan-African editions. Little by little, the vision I had imagined years earlier was becoming reality.

May 2025
Our new prototypes arrived with improved packaging. It was definitely better. But I still knew something was missing. I wanted Afrackers to look like a product that belonged on retail shelves. So I hired a professional graphic designer.

After explaining the heart behind the brand, they designed the logo we proudly use today. It was finalised on 12 May 2025, and for the first time, everything felt like it belonged together. I still had forty sample boxes featuring the old logo, but they served an important purpose—they helped us continue creating content and sharing the story.

September 2025
The final production samples arrived. Everything had finally come together. I placed our first major production order. 2,000 Afrackers. It was exciting. It was scary. It was a huge step of faith.

Christmas 2025
The shipment was supposed to arrive at the beginning of November. Instead, it didn't arrive until the Saturday after Black Friday. With less than a month until Christmas, the pressure was on. We tried Christmas markets. Cyber Monday promotions. Countless videos. Social media campaigns. Some ideas worked. Others didn't.

By the second week, we knew exactly what our customers were responding to, so we doubled down. Within just two weeks... Every single one of our 2,000 crackers sold out. One of the most rewarding parts wasn't the sales.

It was seeing photos from customers opening Afrackers around their Christmas tables.

Families from different backgrounds, cultures and generations laughing, learning and celebrating together using something that had started as an idea in our living room three years earlier.

That's why Afrackers exists. Not simply to sell Christmas crackers. But to help people create joyful, meaningful memories together.

Looking Ahead
Christmas 2026 marks another exciting chapter for Afrackers.
